In 2013 The City of Houston put out a "call" for local artists to enter proposals to create/enter a Thanksgiving Day Parade float. The 64th annual tradition was in peril of being cancelled due to the sale of its floats by the Houston International Festival. Ben Gibson, Will Hill, Julian Luna and I came up with the design concept. I wrote and entered the proposal that was accepted. From that point we started working at a fevered pitch to turn what used the be The Beach ART CAR into a float. Many art car artists and friends volunteered countless hours of their time and talent to help us with this project. The name of this new, very large ART CAR is Art Car Capital of the World! No other float is driven from atop a 13 foot high oil derrick.... and that is because IS it an ART CAR! In 2014 it had all of it's razzle-dazzle replaced and lead the Annual Houston Art Car Parade with Mayor Anise Parker, and her family, waving from the front. This entry was such a hit in 2013 that the City of Houston contacted me again and asked if we could put her back together, like new, for another run in the prestigious Annual Houston Thanksgiving Day Parade. And.... we said yes!!
